Private Car vs. Shared Van for Umrah: Which Should You Choose?

Private Car or Shared Van — Which Is Right for Your Umrah Trip?

Both get you from the airport to Makkah and Madinah, but they suit different travelers. Here's the real difference.

Quick answer: A private sedan or SUV gives you a fixed schedule and privacy, at a higher per-person cost for a solo traveler. A van or group vehicle (Hyundai Staria, Toyota Hiace) is more cost-efficient for families and groups of 4 or more, at a similar or lower per-person cost, without sharing with strangers.

Private Car: Best For

  • Solo travelers or couples who want full control of the schedule — including Meeqat stops, prayer breaks, and rest stops on your own timing.
  • Families with heavy luggage who want more space per person even in a smaller group.
  • Anyone prioritizing privacy over splitting the cost with others.

Van or Group Vehicle: Best For

  • Groups of 4–7 traveling together — a Hyundai Staria or Toyota Hiace splits the fare across more people without losing comfort.
  • Multi-generational family trips — everyone travels together instead of splitting into two cars.
  • Umrah groups organized through a travel agency, where one vehicle for the whole party is simpler to coordinate.

Important: We Don't Offer Shared Rides With Strangers

To be clear, every vehicle we dispatch — sedan, SUV, or van — is private to your booking only. "Shared van" here means a larger vehicle sized for your own group, not a shuttle shared with unrelated passengers. If your group is smaller than the vehicle's capacity, you're still not paying for empty seats to be filled by others.

Cost Comparison (Fixed Prices, Not Per-Seat)

Using the Jeddah Airport → Makkah corridor as an example:

  • Executive Sedan (up to 3 pax): from SAR 249 total
  • VIP Family Van (up to 7 pax): from SAR 349 total

For a group of 4, the van works out to roughly SAR 87 per person versus SAR 83–166 per person split across two sedans — similar cost, but everyone travels together in one vehicle.

Both Options Include

  • A Meeqat stop for Ihram at no extra charge
  • Flight tracking and meet & greet
  • A driver familiar with pilgrim etiquette and prayer-time planning
