Quick answer
Private rides in Madinah are priced per trip with a fixed fare agreed before booking. The common ones are Madinah Airport (MED) to the hotels around Masjid an-Nabawi (about 20 km, around 25 minutes), Madinah to Makkah (about 430 km, around 4 hours, with a stop at the Abyar Ali Miqat), a Ziyarat tour, and Madinah to AlUla (about 330 km). Vehicle class, stops and waiting time shape the price; traffic and demand do not.

The trips most visitors book in Madinah
Madinah is calmer than Makkah, and its rides are simpler. Most visitors need just four things: a transfer from Madinah Airport (MED) to their hotel, a Ziyarat morning, the long transfer to Makkah for Umrah, and — increasingly — a road trip north to AlUla. Each is quoted as one complete trip, with a fixed fare agreed before booking.
Madinah routes: distance and drive time
| Route | Distance | Typical drive |

| Madinah Airport (MED) → Makkah | ~450 km | ~4 hr 20 min + Miqat stop |
| Madinah → Jeddah Airport (JED) | ~410 km | ~3 hr 50 min |
| Madinah → Yanbu | ~220 km | ~2 hr 10 min |
| Madinah → AlUla | ~330 km | ~3 hr |

Arriving at Madinah Airport
Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport (MED) is close to the city, so the transfer itself is short. What takes time is the arrival: immigration and baggage when several flights land together. Share your flight number when you book and we check it before pickup. Most hotels are in the Markaziyah, the central area around Masjid an-Nabawi, where cars set down at the nearest permitted point and you walk the last stretch with your luggage. Madinah to Makkah — the big one
This is the longest and most important journey most pilgrims book from Madinah.
- Miqat: travelling from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah, you pass Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali), on the southern edge of the city. Many pilgrims change into Ihram at their hotel and pray at the Abyar Ali mosque on the way out; tell us you need the stop when you book. Our Miqat guide explains the options.
- Vehicle: this is the leg where comfort matters most — four hours, often with older family members and a full load of luggage. An SUV or van is the usual choice for families. See vehicle capacities.
- Train alternative: the Haramain railway is faster between stations, but Madinah station is away from the Haram, so you need a car to the station and another from Makkah station to your hotel. Our Madinah to Makkah guide compares the two.
Ziyarat in Madinah
The classic Madinah Ziyarat covers Masjid Quba, Mount Uhud and the Martyrs' cemetery, Masjid al-Qiblatayn and the Seven Mosques area. The sites are spread across the city, so one car and driver for a few hours is simpler than separate rides — and the price is set for the time the driver spends with you. See Madinah Ziyarat. For a longer day, a Badr Ziyarat is also possible.
Madinah to AlUla
AlUla's Hegra and Old Town are about 330 km north of Madinah — around three hours by road — which makes Madinah the natural starting point for a road trip there. Many visitors combine the two: Madinah for a few days, then a private transfer to AlUla. See our AlUla travel guide.
What changes the price
- The route — the foundation of the quote.
- The vehicle class — sedan, SUV, van, luxury or minibus.
- Stops and waiting — the Miqat stop, a meal stop, or the time spent at each Ziyarat site.
- Not traffic or demand — the fare you agree does not move, including for late-night airport arrivals.
Payment and cancellation
Pay cash to the driver or by bank transfer; an electronic receipt is available on request. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup. Tipping is optional.
Common questions
How much is a taxi from Madinah Airport to the Haram?
It is quoted per trip by vehicle and luggage and confirmed before you book. It is a short ride — about 22 km, usually around 25 minutes.
Does the Madinah to Makkah fare include the Miqat stop?
Tell us you need it when you book and the stop is planned into the trip and the quote.
Can we do Ziyarat and then leave for Makkah the same day?
Yes, if the timing works — many families do Ziyarat in the morning and leave after Dhuhr. Book it as one plan so the driver, vehicle and luggage space are right for both.
