Why October to March
AlUla is a desert valley: summer days are extremely hot, while the cooler months make long outdoor visits comfortable. That is why most visitors — and much of AlUla's events calendar — fall between October and March. The flip side is demand: resorts, Hegra tours and flights on peak weekends and holidays sell out well ahead.

Sample day plans
Day 1 — arrive and settle
Fly into AlUla International Airport (ULH) or arrive by road from Madinah. Transfer to your resort (about 30 km from the airport to the resort area), rest, then the Old Town at sunset.
Day 2 — Hegra
Morning Hegra tour, booked through the official channels. Your driver takes you to the tour's departure point and collects you after. Afternoon at the resort; evening dinner in town.
Day 3 — Dadan, Jabal Ikmah and Elephant Rock
Late-morning visit to Dadan and the inscriptions at Jabal Ikmah, then Elephant Rock for sunset. With a full-day driver, the car waits at each stop.
Day 4 — depart
Transfer to ULH, or a road transfer back to Madinah (about 330 km, around 3 hours) to continue your trip.

Practical tips for the season
- Pack layers. Desert nights in December and January can be cold, even after a warm day.
- Start early. Light is best and crowds thinner in the morning.
- Dark roads. Sites like Elephant Rock are outside town; driving back after sunset is easier with a local driver than self-drive.
- Share your resort name precisely when booking — some are deep in the canyons.
